Highlights of Fiscal Year 2016 and plans for 2017 include: A new (our 7th) social worker will serve older clients with cognitive impairments (forgetfulness, disorientation, dementia, Alzheimer s), while aiding families/caregivers A first-time linkage with Columbia University School of Nursing will bring 10 Registered Nurse interns into clients homes bolstering our medical safeguards and supports A dozen therapeutic groups offer safe settings for heart-to-heart chats, comradery, joyful activities outside of the home, and normalization of fears/concerns about aging An expanded pet-care program ensures clients beloved companions are well cared for, groomed, walked, receive vet services, and given the attention needed to buttress that lifeaffirming, familial bond Navigating the benefits and entitlements bureaucracy advocating with landlords organizing finances delivering home-based medical supports providing empathic mental health care plus so much more this is what our team does every day, while never wait-listing older people when they need us most. We are dedicated to true wraparound, individualized care for our most vulnerable older neighbors living primarily in Yorkville, Carnegie Hill, and East Harlem. Today, nearly 45 years later, Search and Care has expanded to a team of more than 20.
